Despite heavy weather on Friday, Palisade kicked off its 16th annual Bluegrass and Roots Festival at Riverbend Park with live music and family events.

The festival features a magic show, bubbles, balloon animals and face painting while safety measures with EMS, fire and police are in place for a secure weekend.

Grand Junction police responded to a call about a verbal disturbance on Friday at 3:10 p.m. on Helena Court and arrested 51-year-old Richard Valdez after speaking with those involved because he had an outstanding warrant and was charged with criminal mischief, obstruction and domestic violence.
