  • Grand Valley Connects, the Mesa County Public Health program, is celebrating its third anniversary by linking hundreds of residents to help with groceries, utilities, childcare, and health care (local libraries now host weekly walk-in sessions for those without reliable phone or Internet access). The program tripled its reach from 300 contacts in its first year to 900 in 2024.  The Business Times
  • Nacho, a two-year-old black lab mix known for his gentle behavior and growing skills on leash training, is seeking a forever home at Grand River Humane Society. The society will host a dog adoption event + Mesa County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  KKCO 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Enstrom Candies held a June 3 ribbon-cutting ceremony to open its Enstrom Curveball Creamery at Suplizio Field to offer premium ice cream for Jackalopes home games. • Corbin MacLeod, a 20-year-old local blacksmith, started MacLeod Lux in mid-April to craft luxury tools that blend traditional skills with modern design—he has already made items for the local war memorial and custom barbecue utensils. He now plans to expand his one-man shop by hiring more workers and building a larger space to share his craft with the community.  The Business Times
  • Clubb’s Fabrics in Delta is adding more fabric after buying racks and a measuring table from now-closed JoAnn’s at Mesa Mall—new rolling racks let the store display more than 12,000 fabric choices. Owner Hartland Clubb said the low-cost, made-in-the-US fixtures will help the shop serve more customers who like to see and feel a wide variety of fabric.  The Business Times
  • Club Car Wash opened its first Grand Junction location on June 7 at 691 24 Road + will open a second site on North Avenue this summer. The company is offering its $25 MVP wash for $1 + new customers can get a three-month $10 unlimited membership with proceeds benefiting local nonprofit STRiVE.  The Business Times
  • Jennies Playhouse & Jump Zone reopened on May 24 at 2830 North Ave. in the Eastgate Shopping Center after a 15-month closure forced by changes at Mesa Mall — the new venue now offers 1,000 extra square feet, four birthday-party sections and ten themed play areas for children aged 1 to 12. Owner Jennifer Montoya said she felt both fear and joy — local families welcomed the return with many familiar faces and warm congratulations.  The Business Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former planning commissioner Keith Ehlers urged Grand Junction City Council to rebuild public trust in planning after backlash over the Fourth and Fifth Street redesign — he noted outdated safety data and low community input as signs of a gap between staff decisions and what residents need.  The Business Times

The second event is an open house on June 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the same location where staff will answer questions about protecting vulnerable adults.  Mesa County
  • City crews are chip sealing downtown streets between First Street and the I-70 Business Loop while restriping north Fourth and Fifth streets into a one-lane one-way layout with the bike lane moved outside parking, according to Transportation and Engineering Director Trent Prall.
