- ➤ The Grand Junction Police Department has opened applications for volunteer positions in its Victim Services Unit to help support crime victims and keep services running 24/7 — training for the Fall 2025 Victim Services Academy will run from August 11 — August 27 with sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings and an all-day Saturday on August 16. Applicants must be at least 21, pass a background check and fingerprinting, and apply by July 11. KKCO 11
- ➤ Protestors gathered at Lilac Park (North Avenue and N 1st Street) from 5:30 p.m. until about 6:40 p.m. as part of the GJ Stands with LA protest; the peaceful demonstration involved roughly 40 people with no arrests or injuries and led to caution advised for area drivers. WesternSlopeNow.com

- ➤ The Black Citizens and Friends will host a free family-friendly Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 14 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.—featuring food trucks, live music, jump rope, a scavenger hunt, kids' activities and award presentations honoring local leaders. - ➤ A severe hailstorm struck the Grand Valley Friday night, damaging homes and vehicles in Fruita, Mack and Grand Junction. - ➤ City crews began chip sealing downtown streets this week from First Street to the I-70 Business Loop while restriping Fourth Street north of Grand Avenue to maintain a one-lane configuration with a new bike lane buffer (restoration of Fourth and Fifth south of Grand Avenue is planned later this summer). - ➤ Canyon View Surgery Center at Community Hospital was named to the 2025 Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers list in the Orthopedics and Spine Category by U.S. News and World Report—its strong patient outcomes and about 350 monthly surgeries earned the honor. It is one of six Colorado orthopedic and spine centers recognized among 102 ambulatory centers statewide. KKCO 11
- ➤ A Grand Junction postal carrier suffered a fatal cardiac event while delivering mail, prompting Community Hospital cardiologist Dr. Chris Boyd to urge residents to call 911 immediately if they experience chest pain, dizziness or shortness of breath. Boyd also advised checking for a pulse and starting chest compressions immediately—using automatic defibrillators may help until EMS arrives. WesternSlopeNow.com
