  • Today, locals gathered outside Orchard Mesa Community Center Pool after it reopened following a closure, with many expressing relief at having a key amenity nearby — a result of community efforts by the Save Orchard Mesa Pool group.  KJCT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Grand Junction Police Department responded to a Friday night accident in the Tellers Arms parking lot on North Avenue and 28 Road that injured an adult and a 4-year-old child riding a minibike—while the truck driver was not injured and investigators continue to examine the cause amid increased car show activity.  WesternSlopeNow.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chef Josh Niernberg from Bin 707 Foodbar was one of five finalists for Outstanding Chef at the James Beard Awards in Chicago, and although he did not win the award, he praised his team's work in representing Grand Junction—Colorado also saw Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder earn the Outstanding Restaurant honor.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Scott High will open his family’s 50-year corkscrew collection to the public tomorrow, June 23 at Colterris Collections on G Road—featuring nearly 18,000 items including colorful rabbit corkscrews and vintage wine tools arranged in 60 displays to tell the story of wine history.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mesa County Public Health has extended a No Burn Advisory until further notice, banning all burning because of fire danger and smoky conditions from the France Canyon wildfire. A Red Flag Warning is in effect today from noon to 9 p.m. with gusty winds up to 50 mph + hot, dry conditions expected.  Mesa County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 21, Mesa County Right to Life held its annual Walk for Life at the old County Court House on 6th Street + Rood Avenue in Grand Junction where Congressman Jeff Hurd and other speakers stressed pro-life views and protection for public lands. Participants then marched downtown and concluded the rally with a lunch provided by the Knights of Columbus.  KKCO 11
  • The Bureau of Land Management has opened a 30-day public comment period on a proposed oil and gas lease sale that will offer 61 parcels totaling 51,068 acres in northwest Colorado including lands near Collbran and north of Mack—comments are accepted until July 18. The proposal, set for December, now has revised plans that remove an 80-acre Jackson County parcel pending further review.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
