COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On June 23, 2025, Dalen Brazelton posted a morning road report — the update detailed local road conditions and traffic at 5:22 a.m. MDT. The report was updated at that time and provided essential travel information for the area.  WesternSlopeNow.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Country Jam begins on June 26 and a study by Colorado Mesa University finds it generates more than $11 million for the local economy. Local restaurants & shops say business varies before and after the event depending on the weather.  KJCT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Grand Valley middle schoolers participated in a free four-day Wellspring Project at Connected Lakes State Park and learned about local rivers and invasive plants while sampling invertebrates and collecting trash for art on Monday (the project’s first day). Some students look forward to rafting and flyfishing later in the week, and Director (Cara Kukuraitis) said the project helps address the spread of invasive species.  WesternSlopeNow.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service warned that drought, high temperatures and gusty winds will raise wildfire risk on the Western Slope in July. Meteorologist Brianna Bealo said dry weather, brief showers and gusts may lead to more fires—but monsoon rains might lower the risk later in the month.  KJCT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Colorado Department of Transportation installed cameras on highway 1-19 after nearly 600 work zone crashes and 31 fatalities occurred in 2024, and enforcement is set to begin in the fall with warnings planned for the end of July. Officials plan to impose a $75 fine for speeding in work zones—an effort to improve safety.  KKCO 11
  • Adult Protection Services in Mesa County helps vulnerable adults by looking into signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation and linking them with needed legal help. Residents who think someone is unsafe can call the hotline at 970-248-2888 or dial 911 for emergencies.  Mesa County
