CRIME NEWS

  • Grand Junction Police responded to a stabbing report near Noland Avenue and South 8th Street on Monday night where a man was hospitalized with a serious stab wound during a domestic dispute and on Tuesday morning they arrested 35-year-old Nicole Parks on charges of first degree assault, felony menacing, domestic violence, and obstructing an officer—she fled before officers arrived.  KJCT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Garfield County Commissioners passed an ordinance banning fireworks use, sale or possession in unincorporated areas due to extreme fire danger from record-low fuel moisture and severe drought (with little rain expected through the Fourth of July) and violators face fines up to $1,000 per violation.  KKCO 11
  • Mesa County Commissioners ratified a coalition letter on June 24 that urges the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission to pause wolf reintroductions until core programs for communication, carcass disposal, depredation investigations and compensation are fully operational—officials say current shortcomings are placing undue burdens on local ranchers and rural communities.  Mesa County
  • City Council debated plans to add protected bike lanes on Fourth and Fifth today— the project may require extra curb-cut work and remove 30 downtown parking spots. They will seek pilot programs and stakeholder outreach proposals to address concerns over parking revenue and downtown worker safety.  The Business Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Thrive Marriage + Family Counseling moved into its new home at 827 Grand Ave after owner Chantel Landeros bought and renovated the 117-year-old house to fully use every room for its nine therapists and their clients. The practice opened on May 26 and held an open house on June 21 to show how the renovated space helps clients move from surviving to thriving.  The Business Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Grand Junction baseball team changed its Wednesday name from Jackalopes to Humpback Chubs to honor a local threatened fish after fan Ian Lummis pushed for a unique change. The team sold more Chubs gear than Jackalopes and worked with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and local high schoolers to help protect the fish — a move that highlights community pride and care for nature.  Colorado Public Radio
