- ➤ Judge Jeremy Chaffin ordered a second competency evaluation for 33-year-old Shenting Guo, who is accused of second-degree murder and domestic violence after allegedly killing her boyfriend, Dustin Nalls, on May 14 at WoodSpring Suites in Grand Junction—she will have a review hearing on Aug. 8. - ➤ Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed on June 19 a zebra mussel veliger was found in a sample taken near New Castle during enhanced sampling along the Colorado River. - ➤ Due to extreme heat and dry conditions, Mesa County enforced Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on Friday, June 27, banning the use of fireworks + campfires outside designated pits, and unsafe operation of engines and tools. - ➤ The District Attorney’s Office is accepting applications from Mesa County residents to serve as a volunteer on the 21st Judicial District Crime Victim Compensation Board, where members review financial assistance for victims of crimes. The volunteer will serve between six and 15 hours per month until the term ends Sept. 30th and may be reappointed for additional terms; applications remain open until the position is filled. - ➤ Commissioners and the Mesa County Administrator attended the 2025 JOLT Energy Summit in Rifle from June 26 to 27, where energy experts, elected officials and community leaders discussed an all-of-the-above approach that supports traditional and renewable sources while addressing economic impacts, grid infrastructure and workforce training. They heard from Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser + local leaders stressed the need for policies ensuring energy reliability and local economic stability.
