CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Mesa County deputies caught 45-year-old Joshua Awbery in Clifton at 4:56 p.m. on Wednesday after he allegedly took $10,000 from an ANB Bank, Grand Junction police later arrested Cody Tidwell for assault outside Walmart where a man was seriously injured, and Snowmass police used a drone to track a bull that escaped from a rodeo and wandered into a local neighborhood — all cases remain under active investigation. - ➤ A Grand Junction man allegedly robbed ANB Bank in Clifton on Wednesday by taking $10,000 and fleeing toward City Market, and deputies later found him in a grocery store bathroom and arrested him without incident. WesternSlopeNow.com
- ➤ At this year’s Country Jam in Mack, arrests and citations dropped sharply compared to last year, with just one summons for underage drinking, no fake IDs, and one arrest for criminal trespassing. Local law enforcement, the Colorado State Patrol, and emergency responders handled fewer than 10 reports of fights and mostly treated minor medical issues—indicating a calmer festival atmosphere. - ➤ On June 24, the Mesa County Board approved a $194,240 contract with Roadway Asset Services, LLC to survey 713 centerline miles of paved roads for the 2025 Pavement Condition Assessment Project and format the data for the County's OpenGov system. Public Works will use the final report to update its pavement management plan + help schedule future repairs. Mesa County
- ➤ At the June 24 public hearing, Mesa County Commissioners approved three new 29-foot Compressed Natural Gas buses for Grand Valley Transit at a total cost of $2,115,975. Two buses will replace those at the end of their useful lives and one expansion bus will support planned route expansions later this year and in 2027 — funded through an 80% federal to 20% local match. - ➤ Kraft Heinz Foods now recalls its Oscar Mayer Turkey BACON ORIGINAL products+ offered in 12 oz, 36 oz and 48 oz packages due to a possible Listeria contamination; some items may have been sold in Mesa County though no illnesses have been reported. Consumers should check their refrigerators and throw out the recalled items+ return them for a refund if needed. Mesa County
- ➤ Mesa County Public Health has launched a new Behavioral Health Division to improve care and prevent crises—Jennifer Daniels, a licensed social worker with over 25 years of experience, leads the effort.
