- ➤ Natalie and Frank DeYoung, founders of Light in the Darkness, began serving food and clothing yesterday from a new location off North Avenue to help neighbors in need. The ministry will provide food every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at 900 N 23rd Street — a step designed to support local residents facing hardships. KKCO 11
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Colorado State Patrol troopers found a body along Highway 50 near Starr Nelson Road at 5:06 a.m. Sunday after a driver reported a possible collision, and investigators say the victim was struck in the left lane by multiple vehicles while Westbound Highway 50 remains closed until 1:00 p.m.—2:00 p.m. KJCT

- ➤ Authorities responded just before 5 a.m. on Sunday to a fatal hit-and-run on Highway 50 near Star Nelson Road in Delta—closing the road as investigators processed the scene and noting that two drivers came forward and a suspect vehicle was recovered. WesternSlopeNow.com
- ➤ A study by Consumer Affairs finds that Colorado is ranked the third worst state for road rage based on factors like traffic incidents and aggressive driving, and drivers in the state received 1.81 violations per 100,000 residents—more than eight times the national average. In 2024, Colorado was ranked fourth. KJCT

- ➤ Effective today, Colorado introduced the new 748 area code, which overlays the 970 region plus residents now must dial 10 digits for local calls while keeping their current numbers unchanged; new 748 numbers will be issued only after the 970 supply is exhausted. Phone providers have a nine-month plan to update equipment, and the area code is expected to last 38 years. Colorado Public Radio
- ➤ Contractor KSK LLC of Grand Junction—leading the project—will begin a major bridge maintenance work in Glenwood Canyon mid-July, replacing 23 bridge joints and repairing guardrails between mile points 116 and 133. Motorists will face up to 2.5 mile lane closures and a reduced 35 mph speed limit from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday while work continues until final completion in fall 2026. - ➤ Palisade town leaders learned at a recent meeting that the Bureau of Land Management will speed up the review of an expansion at the Wildcat Loadout Facility near Price, Utah, which may increase train traffic and affect local crossings.
