Good morning, Grand Junction. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 14th of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On July 13, Carboy Winery in Palisade hosted its Summer Craft Fair where local vendors and guests enjoyed handmade crafts, food, wine, and live music. Manager Barbie Graham said a scammer impersonated the winery online to charge $70 for booth reservations — a scheme that led to a police report and may influence future events.  KKCO 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A lightning storm over the weekend ignited three wildfires near Gateway and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, prompting evacuation notices along Highway 141 and in Bostwick Park. Firefighters continue to battle the Turner Gulch, Sowbelly and South Rim fires, which range from 512 to 3,556 acres and remain 0% contained.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Bieser Ranch, a 614 acre property in Plateau Valley on the northern slopes of Grand Mesa, is now protected forever because the family placed a conservation easement on it. The move stops development and keeps the land a safe habitat for wildlife like elk and deer—ensuring scenic views for everyone.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Jared Polis verbally declared a disaster on Sunday for wildfires burning in Montrose-Delta-Mesa counties as state emergency teams will support local officials; wildfires have burned between 512 and 3,556 acres with evacuations ordered near Highway 141 and closure of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.  KJCT

HEALTH NEWS

  • After a 2015 crash near La Jara left Nicole Silva’s 4-year-old daughter with a surprise ambulance bill that grew to over $3,000, state lawmakers have worked on bills to curb such charges. The proposed measures (which mirror those adopted in 20 other states) met resistance from insurers and Gov. Jared Polis, who vetoed a similar plan over concerns it would raise premiums.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

No more rummaging through your suitcase — everything stays in its place, easily accessible when you need it.

Lightweight and durable, these cubes are ideal for carry-ons and checked bags alike. They also help prevent overpacking by limiting how much you can fit in each cube. Once you try them, you’ll wonder how you ever traveled without them.
