- ➤ A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of North Avenue and 28 3/4 Road and was taken to hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department with life-threatening injuries — eastbound lanes were closed as investigators worked at the scene. WesternSlopeNow.com

- ➤ The Turner Gulch Fire grew quickly Monday as it spread 8 miles east from its lightning start on July 10 near Gateway and reached 8,140 acres—fire managers assessed the blaze on Tuesday amid extreme drought and hot, dry weather. - ➤ The Grand River Mosquito Control District recently received new PCR equipment that lets them test for mosquito-borne viruses like West Nile Virus in just a few hours—much faster than the previous seven to ten day wait.
