- ➤ On July 15th, 63-year-old Tammy Turner from Grand Junction was crossing the road near Walmart when a car traveling eastbound on North Ave hit her and she died later that evening. KJCT

- ➤ An employee found a PVC pipe under a desk near a gate at the airport on Tuesday morning, and police cleared the area and investigated the item—officers later confirmed the pipe was empty and not dangerous. KJCT

- ➤ VA Western Colorado Health Care System is hosting the 28th annual Creative Arts Festival from today to July 31 to showcase veteran art in five divisions, featuring 180 entries by 67 veterans and 23 new participants. The festival opening is set for 1 p.m. today at Grand Junction VA Medical Center Building 6, and the art display will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 24–31. The Business Times

- ➤ Mesa County declared a local disaster emergency to speed up response efforts for the ongoing Turner Gulch and Wright Draw Fires near Gateway. The Turner Gulch Fire, sparked by lightning on July 10, has burned 16,679 acres and the 466-acre Wright Draw Fire threatens local waterways + over 500 crews work to slow the fires while strict fire restrictions remain + officials plan measures to reduce flooding and debris flows. - ➤ Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser filed a lawsuit against Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputy Alexander Zwinck after a June 5 traffic stop in Fruita led to University of Utah student Caroline Dias Goncalves being detained by ICE despite having no criminal record. - ➤ The Grand River Mosquito Control District now uses an in-house PCR lab to test for mosquito-borne viruses such as West Nile Virus—giving them same-day results that let officials act quickly.
