  • Mesa County Community Summit is accepting proposals for speaker sessions on topics like resilience and leadership for the October 6 and 7 event at Colorado Mesa University. Proposals must be emailed by July 31, 2025—selected speakers receive free registration for up to two presenters—.  Mesa County
  • Community members in Glade Park launched a tribute for volunteer firefighters by creating what they call the largest thank you card in Mesa County as part of Movies Under the Stars.   • Mesa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Richard James Heiden, 35, as a sixth suspect in an operation to target alleged internet child sex predators on the Western Slope—he faces charges of internet sexual exploitation of a child, internet luring of a child and obscenity while five other men were arrested for related offenses.  WesternSlopeNow.com

  • The City of Grand Junction and GJCAC will host Theatre in the Park on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Park's marble courts, featuring a free family-friendly performance by The Theatre Project of Seusspeare: Romeo and Juliet’s Restaurant Wars + a local food truck offering snacks for purchase.  City of Grand Junction

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews have increased containment of the 466-acre Wright Draw Fire to 77% and are working to contain the nearby 16,851-acre Turner Gulch Fire at 37%, with smoke still visible as the fire retreats from steep terrain. They are using aerial reconnaissance and improved road lines with plans to begin suppression repair along Highway 141 as light precipitation aids progress — fire managers reported.  WesternSlopeNow.com
