- ➤ At 11:05 a.m. Friday, police responded near N. 10th Street and Main Street after a report of gunshots fired and quickly located a male suspect who fired his gun into the air near N. 10th Street and Rood Avenue + he was taken into custody without incident and no injuries were reported. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Bench, a movie adaptation based on Robert Galinsky’s off-Broadway show, wrapped production in Grand Junction after nearly three weeks of filming in July — using local spots as stand-ins for Los Angeles industrial areas. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School District 51 received over $2 million in federal funds on July 25 to cover a budget gap and fund programs like after-school care and migrant education for over half its low-income students—helping keep those programs running as planned. - ➤ Utility companies may shut off power in wildfire-prone areas to help stop fires as high temperatures make homes unsafe, and the American Red Cross advised residents to prepare by keeping extra water, food, and a safe generator plan—using generators only outdoors to avoid deadly gas. KKCO 11

- ➤ Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering free access to state parks for veterans and active-duty military members throughout August; eligible visitors must show proof of service such as a service card, driver’s license with Veteran, or military ID + passes are not valid for spouses or dependents and can be obtained at a CPW office or park entrance. - ➤ The Colorado Department of Transportation’s Bustang celebrated a decade of service on July 31, growing from about 100,000 riders in 2015 to over two million travelers. Its service eases congestion along I-70 and connects the Western Slope to the Front Range (using terminals at Grand Junction Airport and Downtown) (providing a cleaner travel option). KKCO 11
- ➤ The city of Grand Junction announced roadwork projects that will affect travel starting August 4, with G Rd. eastbound closed between 12th St. and Horizon Dr. and detours in place for drivers. Other projects will cause delays on Grand View Commons, Ouray Ave. water work, I-70 Business Loop improvements, and South Camp Rd. restrictions (detours are set and planning calls for clear signage). - ➤ Grand Junction’s The Current project received $4,078,646 in Prop 123 funds to build 54 affordable homes on a 15-acre subdivision near jobs, shops, and parks — the only affordable housing in a fast-growing area.
