- ➤ First Baptist Church at 720 Grand Ave installed Rev. Joshua McCarty as its new pastor in mid-June, making him the first pastor in 142 years after he merged his River City Church with the historic congregation—he said uniting the two groups will help spread Jesus' love across the community. - ➤ The state of Colorado sued PetSmart earlier this week in Denver district court for allegedly misleading dog groomers by advertising free or paid training that locked them into expensive training repayment agreement (TRAP) contracts, affecting 106 employees between 2018 and 2022, including those at the Grand Junction location. - ➤ The Storm Cellar winery in Hotchkiss, run by Jayme Henderson and Steve Steese, won two gold medals at the Sommeliers Choice Awards for their 2023 grüner veltliner and riesling wines. They plan to join more contests and focus on white and rosé wines—while also adding sparkling wine and vermouth—using Colorado’s high-elevation climate to grow better grapes.
