COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Before today, on August 3, Bejarano’s Barbering celebrated its tenth anniversary on Main Street with live music, a food truck, and giveaways that attracted many locals. Owner Chris Bejarano, a third-generation barber, said he will continue cutting hair and building community ties—planning an even bigger celebration when the shop reaches twenty years.  KKCO 11

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire ignited near Glade Park today, covering 10 acres on private land near JS Road + 16 1/2 Road, and fire crews from Glade Park Fire, Grand Junction Fire Department, and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office are working to protect private structures while requesting more resources.  KKCO 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On August 2, Ramblebine Brewing Company celebrated five years in business since opening in 2020. The event featured a cowboys and aliens theme—live music, new beer releases, food trucks and a mechanical bull, while co-owner Eli Gerson thanked the community for its support.  KKCO 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Anna Stout and four Grand Junction residents are in El Salvador as part of a cultural exchange organized by the Foundation for Cultural Exchange—visiting sister city El Espino and leaving for San Salvador today to explore historic sites and learn local traditions. Returning participant Erin Mitchell said her stay deepened her bond with local customs and strengthened ties between the communities.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Jared Polis declared a disaster emergency for the Elk Creek Fire on August 3 in Rio Blanco County and mobilized state firefighting crews — including air resources and a Type 3 Incident Management Team — to help contain the blaze burning on private and state lands.  KKCO 11
  • Governor Jared Polis verbally declared a disaster emergency on August 3 after the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office requested state support for the Elk Creek Fire burning on private and state-owned lands and estimated at 100 acres. Ground crews, air support and a Type 3 Incident Management Team were mobilized — they are now working to manage the fire and protect values at risk.  KJCT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mesa County hosted the third stop on the 2025 Nautique Wake Series this weekend when international wakeboarders and wakesurfers competed for cash prizes at two sites in the Grand Valley—Imondi Wake Zone in Fruita and Highline Lake State Park in Loma.
