CRIME NEWS

  • At 6:30 a.m. today, officers on North Avenue arrested Diana Digiallonardo, 37, after she waved a BB gun at people—her replica weapon led to charges of felony menacing and disorderly conduct and she was taken to the hospital for evaluation.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Federal funds for Mesa County Libraries’ Adult Learning Center were released on July 31 after a delay from the original July 1 deadline. The grant will pay six instructors for GED and English classes until the end of June 2026 — library officials said they are now able to focus on serving adult learners.  KJCT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildfires are burning thousands of acres across the Western Slope and have left charred soil that lowers water absorption—raising flood risks that could damage homes and force families to move. Mesa County officials advise residents to obtain flood insurance—available immediately through the National Flood Insurance Program—and secure outdoor items to lessen flood damage.  KJCT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Colorado Department of Transportation moved traffic to a new concrete pavement on the south side of U.S. 6 in Clifton and began work on a new roadway and second roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Fifth Street. The project will run into spring but may finish sooner if work is completed early—officials thank local drivers for their patience.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • The Mesa County Fairgrounds in Grand Junction now serves as an incident command post for Turner Gulch fire crews who took command on Sunday evening, providing power, internet and supplies for planning and logistics. Emily Ficker from Northern Rockies Incident Team II said the setup helps keep crews coordinated and safe — a key factor in fighting the fire.  KKCO 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials reported that whooping cough cases are rising in Western Colorado as students head back to school—over 8,000 cases have been reported nationwide and Mesa County’s rate is 8 times higher than in 2019. Mesa County Public Health offers vaccines at its local clinic and advises families to stay home when sick, cover coughs, and wash hands to help stop the spread.  KJCT
  • Mesa County Public Health launched a mental health campaign called Find the Right Fit to help Grand Junction residents locate proper mental health resources — the program, created with nine community partners, uses simple language and will expand soon.  WesternSlopeNow.com
  • Mesa County Public Health has launched a new campaign called Find the Right Fit to help residents find mental health care that meets their needs using an easy-to-use website. The site offers a directory of local providers, real-life scenarios, and information in both English and Spanish—this effort grew from community input at a Behavioral Health Summit.  Mesa County
