- ➤ The American Red Cross of Western Colorado opened an evacuation center at Pagosa Springs High School to help residents displaced by the Oak Fire, which burned 150 acres on Monday morning. - ➤ Dry lightning from monsoon storms in Western Colorado started several wildfires on July 10, July 28, August 2, and August 3. Officials said fires like the 2274-acre Sowbelly, the 28403-acre Turner Gulch at 49% contained, and the 113378-acre Lee fire at 7% contained vary in control levels — crews continue to monitor the situation. - ➤ Since the Lee Fire moved into Garfield County over the weekend, operations in Rifle were affected on Monday as the Clerk and Recorder's Office lost its state motor vehicle system with no repair time estimated. - ➤ On July 23, Mesa County on behalf of Garfield, Delta, Montrose, Moffat and Rio Blanco sent a letter to the Department of Interior asking for the release of $40 million for the Shoshone Water Rights Preservation Project — local commissioners stressed that the initiative, backed by Mesa and Garfield’s contributions of $1 and $3 million toward a $99 million purchase, is vital for agriculture, energy and rural communities. - ➤ Mesa County Public Health has added three new naloxone kiosks—located at Mesa County Libraries in Orchard Mesa, Palisade, and Collbran—that bring the total to 12 sites offering free naloxone with instructions in English and Spanish.
