ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Monday morning, Grand Junction Police responded when a man accidentally shot himself in the leg at Kratom Bar on 12th Street and he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the fire department assisted – police confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the community. - ➤ On Sunday around 8 p.m. near 28 1/2 Road and Hartford, a car hit an e-bike rider who suffered serious leg injuries and the Colorado State Patrol is asking for tips to identify the vehicle—prompting a community call for information. WesternSlopeNow.com

- ➤ Colorado Mesa University celebrated its 100th birthday on the first day of school with vibrant events — alumni hosted a centennial ceremony at Houston Hall and campus parties brought added energy. - ➤ Colorado wildlife officials evacuated 266 Uncompahgre trout from Wildcat Creek earlier this week to protect them from the Stoner Mesa Fire burning in the San Juan National Forest — they transported the fish 165 miles to a hatchery where they will stay until it is safe to return them to the creek. - ➤ Grand Junction Regional Airport was awarded $12.5 million to upgrade and expand its runway after officials announced the funding on August 18th, and they said the project will boost economic growth and improve wildfire relief. The project is expected to allow greater storage for firefighting aircraft—ensuring local air travel stays safe and efficient. KKCO 11
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Last Monday, Mesa County Public Health added free naloxone kiosks in Orchard Mesa, Palisade, and Colbran across the Grand Valley to expand access to overdose-reversing medicine. - ➤ Health officials confirmed the state's 21st measles case on Monday when a Mesa County adult with an unknown vaccination status became sick—officials report nearly two-thirds of the cases are in unvaccinated people. They are investigating community spread in Grand Junction by checking a clinic, church and restaurants while warning that a passenger with measles traveled through Denver International Airport on Aug. 12 and anyone exposed should watch for symptoms for 21 days.
