- ➤ The City of Grand Junction is partnering with the Skateboard Alliance to host the Wild West Skate Fest on September 13 at Emerson Skate Park from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Skaters of all levels must pre-register by 5 p.m. Sept. 11 or sign up on day-of to compete for prizes including a $5,000 cash purse — live music, food, artwork, and business booths will also be available for spectators. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Grand Junction police arrested 45-year-old Arthur Lucas for first-degree assault and illegal discharge of a firearm related to a weekend shooting near Sam’s Club—while officers also detained 18-year-old Dangelo Saenz after a pursuit that ended in a crash at Mesa Mall, charging him with felony menacing, attempted vehicular assault and vehicular eluding. - ➤ The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is investigating the Pueblo County Coroner after state officials found more than 20 decaying bodies at Davis Mortuary—authorities are using dental x-rays, fingerprints, and DNA samples to identify the remains while state regulators suspended the mortuary’s license on August 20 and Governor Polis urged Cotter to step down. - ➤ Urban areas and burn scars in western Colorado are at risk for flash flooding due to poor drainage—First Alert Chief Meteorologist Stephen Bowers stressed that residents should have a go bag and know their escape routes. Grand Junction Fire Department's Dirk Clingman advised that drivers avoid flooded roads and urged residents to seek higher ground when water builds up. KKCO 11

- ➤ Dalen Brazelton posted a morning road report at 5:34 a.m. MDT on August 25 that outlined traffic updates and road conditions for Grand Junction commuters—providing key details for local travel. WesternSlopeNow.com
- ➤ At station one, the Grand Junction Fire Department held training to prepare for a worst-case event when a firefighter gets hurt in a fire. The team used a hose, blackout masks, and loud music to create a simulated rescue scenario and they plan to practice this setup monthly. KKCO 11
- ➤ Mesa County administrative offices will close on Monday, Sept. 1 for Labor Day—except the Coroner’s Office, Criminal Justice Services and the Sheriff’s Office emergency functions, while Animal Services will operate from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mesa County
