- ➤ Grand Junction’s Parks and Recreation Department offers classes such as fencing, pickleball, tai chi, and line dancing to help community members stay active. It ended a summer camp for 500 kids—preparing the way for a youth basketball program and weekly classes at Lincoln Park Barn. KKCO 11

- ➤ Business and policy leaders met in Grand Junction on Aug. 19 for the Energy Summit – where Marty Durbin and others stressed that rising electricity demand calls for faster permits and more energy options. They discussed how improved processes could boost local job growth and secure the region's economic future. The Business Times
- ➤ Golden Gate Petroleum is constructing a new gas station and convenience store at the U.S. 50 and Willow Bend Road intersection in Whitewater that will include a full-service Krispy Krunchy Chicken option—unique for the Grand Junction area. The store will have 17 fuel dispensers and extra seating and is slated to open in mid to late October. The Business Times
- ➤ Club Car Wash opened its second Grand Junction location at 2122 North Ave in mid-August after debuting its first site at 691 24 Road in late May. The new site offers high-quality wash packages, unlimited memberships and a $25 MVP wash for $1—100 percent of proceeds will benefit CASA of Mesa County. The Business Times

- ➤ The man accused of shooting someone at a car meet in the parking lot of Sprouts Farmers Market in Grand Junction appeared by video Tuesday and faces charges of first-degree assault and illegal discharge of a weapon after his Sunday arrest in Montrose — a $250,000 cash bond was set. - ➤ The city council voted on Aug. 20 to revert 4th and 5th Streets south of Grand Avenue to their original design, ending the complete streets pilot program—construction crews will begin work next Tuesday, Sept. 2 to remove the installed bollards and barriers. The Business Times
- ➤ Grand Junction Regional Airport received a $12.5 million FAA grant on Aug 18 to fund its runway expansion and now plans to open the runway in 2029 instead of 2030—this change comes with cost savings of over $680,000 due to reduced matching requirements. The Business Times
- ➤ The Grand Junction VA Medical Center will receive planned upgrades as part of an $800 million funding reallocation by the Department of Veterans Affairs under the Veterans Health Administration’s Non-Recurring Maintenance program this fiscal year. The improvements—ranging from sanitary sewer and urgent care updates to dental clinic and electronic health record upgrades—are funded through VHA reform savings and will raise total NRM spending to $2.8 billion. - ➤ City officials are installing gates at the east and west entrances of Canyon View Park—effective Sept. 2—to improve safety after reports of growing misuse after hours.
