- ➤ The Grand Junction Police Department arrested 43-year-old Melvin Johnson on August 31 at the Columbine Motel for threatening his roommate with a knife—he barricaded himself inside and was booked into Mesa County Detention Facility on charges of Felony Menacing, Obstruction, and Resisting Arrest with no injuries reported. - ➤ A skeletal fish, a life-sized ostrich and three other figures will be installed in downtown Fruita on Wednesday, Sept 3 as part of the HeART of Fruita Program—an expansion from three sculptures last year created by local artists Pavia Justinian, Jeff Bates and Trevor Hall. - ➤ Ground has broken on a Roan Creek project to build a permanent fish barrier that will protect native fish such as the rare cutthroat trout in western Garfield County. The work will cost over $1 million and update aging irrigation systems—improving water use and stream habitat with funding from the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART Program and other partners.
