- ➤ The Mesa County Community Summit will take place Oct. 6–7 at Colorado Mesa University where caseworkers, educators, caregivers, and service providers will meet to share ideas and build partnerships that strengthen outcomes for children and families, with the Inspire theme highlighting hope, resilience and innovation. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Grand Junction Police Department said motor vehicle thefts have fallen since the COVID-19 pandemic but warned residents that cooler weather could bring a slight spike in early morning thefts—urging drivers to lock their cars and keep keys separate from their vehicles. KKCO 11
- ➤ Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help identify three masked suspects involved in an armed robbery on September 3 at 4 a.m. in the 400 block of Morning Dove Drive, with one suspect (29 year old Shane Bowser) already identified. KJCT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A storm on Thursday dumped heavy rain over Redlands for nearly an hour, causing flooding, mudslides and trail closures that officials compared to a 100-year flood event. City foresters and Red Cross representatives stressed that residents should follow preparedness plans as flash floods and mudslides can happen quickly. WesternSlopeNow.com
- ➤ After a storm on September 4, heavy flooding forced Grand Junction to close parts of the Lunch Loops, Monument Trail, and Monument Road because rising water and debris made travel dangerous. Local residents say such floods are rare—occurring roughly every 5 years—and warn everyone to use caution near floodwaters. KKCO 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mesa County said the 32 1/2 and Clifton Campus Roadway Improvement Project in Clifton will finish by October 3. Crews are in the third phase widening D 3/4 Road between East and Chukar Way—detours remain active for drivers. KJCT
- ➤ City crews and CDOT will slow travel starting Sept. 8 with work on the Horizon Dr—G Rd roundabout, closures on G Rd, detours on Ouray Ave and Linden Ave, and lane reductions on I-70 Business Loop.
