  • A local couple has entered their baby Kazden in the 'Baby of the Year' contest—an event that raises funds for Baby2Baby—with first round voting ending on September 25. Born on August 14th, his parents say he is a calming spirit who loves music and hope the prize money will help his future—perhaps even funding a fun trip.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Colorado Department of Local Affairs awarded $1,073,787 in its second cycle of the Housing Planning Grant Program to 20 projects supporting housing assessments and action plans in Grand Junction, Paonia, Delta, and the Western Slope — the funds will help local governments plan for growth. The third round will open November 7 through December 3 and interested applicants should email Program Manager Ashley Basham for details.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • CiviCO’s 10th annual Governors Fellowship Program concluded in Grand Junction after a year of statewide travel and discussions on issues like water rights and affordable housing. The program built collisions of thought among nearly 40 fellows and set a Sept 30 application deadline for 2026 to bring more Western Slopers into civic service.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • The city of Grand Junction has finished underground work on Crosby Avenue and is finalizing rights and easements with CDOT—bids for the next phase are expected in the next few weeks. Construction of the upgraded street and pedestrian trail will begin early next year and is anticipated to take about five months.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • World Alzheimer’s Day was observed on September 21 to raise awareness and support for people living with Alzheimer’s, which affects over 91,000 Coloradans and ranks as the sixth leading cause of death, while the Alzheimer’s Association offered education and resources to families. The Association said *Walk to End Alzheimer’s* events will continue this fall with one in Durango on September 27 and another in Grand Junction on October 11.  KJCT
