  • Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County will host its third annual Hope Through Homes fundraiser on Oct. 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 3038 Stratton Drive in the John Hoffman Subdivision—Alpine Bank is the title sponsor, and tickets cost $20 presale or $25 at the door with free entry for children under 10.  The Business Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kristin Rau, Mesa County’s Enterprise Zone administrator, said Colorado’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade will approve the new map by Oct 16 and it will take effect Jan 1—about 1,800 businesses risk losing tax credits. Affected businesses in key areas like downtown Grand Junction and the airport zone must apply for grandfather status by Oct 16 to retain the benefits.  The Business Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grand Valley Transit is introducing pilot route 12 that will begin service on October 6 for free until December 31 — the route runs every 30 minutes from North Avenue to the West Transfer Center near Mesa Mall and helps residents reach schools, parks and local businesses.  KKCO 11
  • The City of Grand Junction now records all committee meetings so residents who miss them can listen online. At the Urban Trails Committee meeting on Sept. 10th, officials approved a support letter for a $250,000 trails project and shared updates on cycling and pedestrian improvements—more details will come as issues are clarified.  The Business Times
  • The Mesa County Regional Transportation Planning Office is holding Week Without Driving from September 29 to October 5 to let residents try public transit and see the challenges of not having a car—free GVT rides are offered for the event.  Mesa County

HEALTH NEWS

  • During National Preparedness Month, local residents are urged to prepare for emergencies like wildfires, floods, and winter storms by making a family emergency plan—this plan should include communication steps, evacuation routes, and an emergency kit with food, water, and medicine. Delta County Public Health advises that self-sufficiency helps emergency services focus on those in greater need.  KJCT
  • Trace One's review of CDC data shows Colorado had 74 foodborne outbreaks from 2021 to 2023—a drop of 18.7% from before the pandemic, with illness cases falling by 12.1%.   • The HBA of Western Colorado will host the 44th Annual Parade of Homes from Sept.26-28 and Oct.3-5 where 17 homes by 16 Mesa County builders will be open on weekends—tickets and proper footwear will be required for the tour.
