  • Grand Valley Transit’s Shelter Mural Project is bringing new art to three bus stop shelters in Grand Junction, with one already set up near the Central Library—two more will be added later this fall as part of a grant from a local arts commission.  KJCT
  • The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Victim Advocate Program is seeking on-call volunteers to support crime victims after incidents — offering comfort and help with practical needs like hotel rooms and bus tickets while guiding them through legal steps.   • Powderhorn Mountain Resort will replace its aging West End lift with a high speed quad named Wild West Express, set to open in December during the resort's 60th anniversary season.   • Yesterday, business leaders gathered at Colorado Mesa University for the Spark Summit where local business coaches Kristin Donahue and Bob Bever provided practical tools for growth.   • The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Victim Advocate Program is recruiting on-call volunteers to help crime victims immediately after an incident by offering comfort & connecting them to resources like hotel rooms or bus tickets while guiding them through the justice process.  KJCT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grand Junction's 10th annual Downtown Art Fest will run from October 2 to October 4 and will feature free events downtown such as live artist demos, local group performances, and new art installations; community engagement manager Dave Goe said the event will also include a Westbound Art by Train show on October 3—artists will create art on an Amtrak train as it travels to Grand Junction.  KKCO 11
  • On September 27, TEDx will be held at The Arts Center in Grand Junction where speakers from local and other states will address monumental changes such as AI and social media impacts—organized by Mary Watson to inspire community connection.  KJCT
  • The Colorado National Monument Association will host Music in the Monument on Saturday at Saddlehorn Amphitheater with multi-instrumentalist Jeneve Rose Mitchell performing from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.—attendees may park and seat beginning at 4:30 p.m. while tickets cost $25 with monument entry fees waived for National Public Lands Day.  WesternSlopeNow.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Collared gray wolves were seen in northwestern Mesa County over the past month, with activity recorded west of Grand Junction and in nearby Garfield and Rio Blanco counties. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says they are monitoring the broad movements of these wolves—data used to track their patterns.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • In August, Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed zebra mussels were found in five areas on the Western Slope and increased its sampling efforts using a Plankton Tow Net—samples are sent to labs in Denver and Brush to check for DNA. Officials warn that cleaning, draining, and drying equipment is crucial to stop the spread of the invasive species.  KKCO 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials announced that Kroger and Aquastar shrimp may have been contaminated with cesium-137—a radioactive substance that can lead to cancer with long-term exposure—and advise Mesa County customers to discard or return the products for a refund.  KJCT
