- ➤ Cherry, a six-month-old cat who recovered from an infected eye and severe upper respiratory infection at Grand Rivers Humane Society (GRHS), loves to cuddle and gets along with other cats and dogs. He is now available for foster or forever care. KJCT
- ➤ Credit Union of Colorado employees partnered with Kids Aid on Monday to pack nearly 3,000 bags with food and meal cards to help youth learn meal prep and sustainability at 130 Grand Junction locations — an effort to ease childhood hunger. KJCT
- ➤ Nearly 150 unhoused community members returned to HomewardBound on October 13 after a 72-hour closure caused by funding issues — residents warned that the cold weather risks their health and questioned city policies that left them with no alternatives. KJCT
- ➤ The Confluence Center of Colorado will host its Run for Rivers fundraiser on November 8 from 10 a.m. along the Riverfront Trail, featuring a 5k run, a 1k run for kids, and extra activities — including a nature scavenger hunt and art projects. The center will also hold its grand opening on November 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — a new hub for river education and stewardship. KJCT
- ➤ The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office animal control fed a small rescued kitten (Onyx) after a citizen found it alone, and the kitten was moved to an emergency foster home with help from the Grand Rivers Humane Society. KJCT

- ➤ Grand Valley Power will raise electricity rates for residential members starting Nov. 1 due to rising operational costs, with customers on the GS-TOU plan facing a 4% average increase and a $1.50 monthly fixed charge while off-peak kilowatt-hour charges drop. The change comes after two and a half years without an increase as the co-op battles inflation and declining kilowatt-hour sales and encourages participation in its Shared Savings Program to help offset costs, with new charges appearing on early December bills. - ➤ Mesa County’s free Virtual Senior Law Series runs live every Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. until Oct. 24, offering older adults, caregivers, and community members a session on Colorado foreclosure law on Oct. 17 and Social Security on Oct. 24; participants must register live to receive a free Senior Law Handbook and can call 970-450-7458 for technical help — sessions are not recorded. - ➤ The Daily Sentinel interviewed six candidates for the Mesa County Valley School Board and asked them about budgets, tech use, and declining enrollment (with some suggesting school changes) as ballots will be mailed Friday. - ➤ Grand Junction had its wettest day in 50 years over the weekend as heavy rain caused flooding in Redlands and forced the closure of Tiara Rado Golf Course after it received 2.5 inches of rain—local officials say the course will dry out soon and repair work will begin while the rain helps ease drought in parts of Western Colorado. - ➤ Visitors to the Mesa County Landfill must remove prohibited items such as hazardous, liquid, and special waste and separate metal for recycling before dropping off their load. The 3071 US-50 facility in Grand Junction is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.—follow these rules to dispose of trash properly. Mesa County

- ➤ River Valley Family Health Centers (RVFHC) opened a new clinic in Delta with funds from the Southwest Colorado Opioid Regional Council (SWCORC) to help people with opioid addiction using medicine and counseling. The clinic now gives patients extra support with food, clothing, and rides to help them on their road to recovery. KJCT
