- ➤ Over 70 local residents with low vision or who support the community gathered at Sherward Park on October 18 to walk and raise awareness for local resources—sponsored by Western Colorado Lions—with hopes the event becomes an annual tradition. Organizers said the funds raised will help provide educational courses, specialty glasses, and white canes to empower independence. KKCO 11
- ➤ Every October, the Trail of Terror Haunted House returns to town to offer a Halloween activity that raises funds for young cheerleaders and dancers from Express All Stars Cheer & Dance Academy — it runs Friday and Saturday nights from 7 p.m. to midnight through November 1 at the Mesa Mall Dillard’s parking lot. - ➤ McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area is marking its 25th anniversary since its 2000 designation with a series of local events organized by Colorado Canyons Association. A guided hike (9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Devil's Canyon Trailhead) and a volunteer trail project (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kokopelli Trailhead) are planned along with a celebration at Hot Tomato in Fruita (4 to 8 p.m.).
