- ➤ Friends of the Mustangs is hosting a wild horse adoption event at Mesa County Fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday to find homes for 24 mustangs as the BLM shuts its Canon City holding facility because of budget cuts — the event offers a viewing on Friday and a Saturday session running from 8 to 9:30 a.m. with bidding from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and applications due by 9:30 a.m. WesternSlopeNow.com
- ➤ Covenant Presbyterian Church will host its annual spaghetti dinner on Nov. 8 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at 237 32 Road on Orchard Mesa—south of Clifton—while tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for kids under 5 with proceeds benefiting HomewardBound of the Grand Valley. - ➤ Investigators Rhonda Steele and Nina Carrillo with Western Slope Paranormal are guiding walking tours through Grand Junction’s historic sites including The Elk’s Lodge, The Feisty Pint, and The Hotel Melrose— they use a REM pod and K2 meter to measure paranormal energy and work with local businesses on private investigations while continuing tours for the rest of the year. - ➤ The state extended the deadline for downtown and northern Grand Junction businesses to apply for extended tax credits until Dec 31 after redesignating Enterprise Zones set to take effect Jan 1—affecting about 1,800 businesses. Only around 20 businesses applied by the original deadline and officials said owners must contact local support to secure their grandfathered tax credit benefits—prompting timely action from the local business community. - ➤ Grand Valley Power is boosting wildfire safety by trimming trees, upgrading equipment, and planning to move power lines underground at Vega Reservoir next year (it is also using drones and AI mapping to focus on risky areas). - ➤ City of Grand Junction will start several road projects on Nov. 3—detours will be set up on the Ouray Ave water project between 7th and 15th Streets, along with work at Grand View Commons on 28 Rd; Linden Ave will be closed between Unaweep Ave and Hwy. 50. Non-City projects by CDOT and Xcel Energy will reduce lanes on First Street, Ute & Pitkin and temporarily close 25 Rd, so drivers should follow all detour signs and traffic controls. - ➤ The Colorado Coalition reports that one in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and experts at Community Hospital urge routine mammograms starting at age 40.
