Good morning, Grand Junction. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 2nd of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tractor Supply Co. hosted the Meet Your Hometown Heroes event on November 1 to honor first responders from the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Grand Junction Police in Grand Junction. The busy parking lot brought residents together with officers and adoptable dogs—providing a friendly space to connect beyond emergency calls.  KJCT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews from the Western Colorado Conservation Corps completed phase one of thinning overgrown vegetation on a conserved Plateau Valley property to reduce wildfire risk and protect key water infrastructure. The project, executed with Colorado West Land Trust, CSFS and Ute Water, features a 300-foot firebreak near a hydroelectric dam and will treat 25 acres each year until 2028 — improving wildlife habitat.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • At Cross Orchards, five sheep from *High Country Environmental Grazing* are eating invasive weeds on the 16-acre historic site to control vegetation where mowing was ineffective; more sheep will join in the coming weeks to extend this sustainable method. The animals serve as natural lawnmowers *linking agriculture and heritage* for visitors at the site.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment reported that fewer than 5% of Mesa County children under six were tested for lead exposure last year and advises parents to have the test as lead can harm learning, behavior and growth. Upcoming health events include language justice training on Nov. 7 at Clifton Community Campus, a Fall Health Fair on Nov. 8 in Rifle offering vaccines and screenings, and a Montrose presentation on Nov. 12 about Axonics Therapy for incontinence.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
