  • Nine pets were adopted last weekend at Mesa County Animal Services' Pup-kin Patch Adoption Special at the Whitewater shelter — many more dogs, cats, and even a rooster are still waiting for new families this holiday season.  Mesa County
  • Boy Scout Troop 328, sponsored by Orchard Mesa Baptist Church, launched a food drive to help local families facing food insecurity and distributed collection bags on November 1 in Orchard Mesa. The troop will pick up filled bags this Saturday for donation to Food Bank of the Rockies and Orchard Mesa Baptist Church Food Bank — residents without a bag can drop off food on November 10 at Orchard Mesa Baptist Church.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • A Grand Junction family is planning to feed over 200 truckers at a local truck stop—coordinating with Love’s and accepting food donations ahead of Thanksgiving. Kandi Roy said her family wants to show thanks to truck drivers, especially as her husband will be on the road this holiday.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering veterans, active-duty military personnel & the National Guard free entry into state parks on Veterans’ Day when they show proof of service. Vehicles with a Colorado Disabled Veteran or Purple Heart plate qualify for free entry year-round.  KKCO 11
  • State leaders in Colorado are fighting to protect food access as the federal shutdown continues—Attorney General Phil Weiser and over 20 other AGs have sued USDA after SNAP benefits were halted while funds have been set aside to support food banks for more than 600,000 families.  KJCT
  • At the first public hearing on Grand Junction’s budget, arts community members asked City Council to bring local arts funding back to $70,000—reversing a cut made to balance the budget—while Council members approved the first reading.   • The FAA and US Department of Transportation announced that flights at the nation’s 40 largest airports will drop 10% due to staffing shortages from the government shutdown. Grand Junction Regional Airport said its operations remain normal — but travelers should check with airlines as schedule changes may affect their plans.  WesternSlopeNow.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Family Health West partnered with Mesa County Public Health to move a naloxone kiosk to primary and urgent care centers in Fruita to offer free overdose reversal drugs — making it easier for people to access the medication quickly. Officials say the new location near the Fruita Welcome Center will help improve harm reduction efforts.  KKCO 11
  • Right at Home is offering RightAssist—a proactive monitoring system that uses a waterproof bracelet to track seniors' sleep, walking speed and daily routines to alert caregivers before accidents occur. The company serves Mesa, Garfield, Eagle and Pitkin counties and provides free consultations while the standalone device costs $50 to install plus $46 monthly.  KKCO 11
