  • Grand Valley Horse Rescue is holding an open house today from noon to 2 p.m. at 2327 H Road to thank community supporters for keeping the rescue running with more than $7,500 in donations; visitors can tour the facility and meet the horses.  WesternSlopeNow.com
  • A November 7 road report said that a plane crash in Delta County injured two people — FAA flight cuts may soon affect travel in Grand Junction and above-average temperatures continue.   • Locals are invited to support families by adopting angel tags from the Angel Tree program, which launched on Nov. 6 to bring holiday cheer to children using tags on three trees located at Bank of Colorado sites (200 Grand Ave, 2452 Patterson Rd, and 2903 Patterson Rd).   • Bray Real Estate hosted its second annual veterans’ breakfast at Moose Lodge Friday morning — about 150 veterans and guests ate breakfast burritos and heard remarks from retired Lt. Col.   • The Mesa Valley Education Association backed former teacher Kaci Cole and principal Vicki Woods in Tuesday's Board of Education election by endorsing and funding each candidate with $5,000 at Cruise Control Kitchen and Cellar. Cole won with 54.1%—ousting Board Vice President Will Jones—and Woods secured 56.9%, with their victories expected to bring stronger teacher participation to future contract talks as Board President Andrea Haitz was re-elected and Mike Rathbone finished a close race.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New long range data shows that weak La Nina conditions will affect Western Colorado this winter as forecasts predict heavier snowfall in the high country and less snow near Grand Junction. Wet October rains may boost soil moisture for spring runoff even though the snowpack is building slowly and future updates may change these projections.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting November 10, the city will close 28 Road between Grand Ave and Belford Ave along with the Linden Ave water project area, leading to detours and delays. Drivers are advised to follow detour signs—flaggers will control traffic at key intersections.  City of Grand Junction
  • SNAP benefits for November are scheduled to be loaded onto EBT cards with full payments expected in the next few days, the Colorado Department of Human Services said today.   • Fruita has broken ground on a new affordable workforce housing project that will convert a former assisted living facility on West Ottley Avenue into 62 apartments on a three-acre site.   • Grand Junction Regional Airport canceled five United Airlines flights amid an FAA directive to cut air traffic during the government shutdown; CEO Angela Padalecki said two round-trip flights were canceled before 5 a.m., one was canceled today, and two more are set for Sunday—all on small regional jets.
