- ➤ Local law enforcement, community members, and Special Olympics Colorado supporters plunged into icy water at Highline State Park on Sunday for the first Grand Junction Polar Plunge, part of a fundraiser benefiting over 28,000 athletes statewide. More than 40 participants joined the event and organizers plan to make it annual — a new local tradition in community fundraising. WesternSlopeNow.com
- ➤ Dozens took part in Grand Junction’s first Polar Plunge on November 9 to benefit Special Olympics Colorado at Highline Lake — local law enforcement and partners organized the event — and it raised about $6,500 with hopes of growing future fundraisers. KKCO 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The El Pomar Foundation has approved $1,608,000 in grants for 17 nonprofit and government groups in the Northwest region+ local groups in Grand Junction like the 21st Judicial District and Colorado Mesa University Foundation received funding for programs such as apprenticeship training and general operations. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Megan Barrowclough, who donated her left kidney in November 2023 to her childhood friend Regina, ran over 150 miles from Moab to Mesa County to raise awareness for living kidney donation. She completed roughly 157 miles over four days, following the Kokopelli and riverfront trails into downtown Grand Junction — showing that a full and active life is possible after donation. KJCT
