CULTURE NEWS

  • Grand Junction dancer April Schulte-Barclay will travel to Los Angeles on November 14 to perform at the LA Rams pregame show at SoFi Stadium, joining a team of 50 women (all over 50) who have been practicing their routine since July. She runs Dance Works where she teaches and inspires others to keep moving no matter their age.  KKCO 11
  • Christa Funk, a native and former Grand Junction High School graduate who became a world-class surf photographer, returns home tonight with her film 'First In, Last Out' that tells her journey from Colorado’s desert valleys to Hawaii’s giant waves.   • On Wednesday, the Grand Valley Creative Alliance broke ground on its new community arts studio, The ARTery, at 539 Colorado Ave downtown following a $1 million donation from Robbie Breaux and Chuck Breaux.   • On November 12, local financial experts hosted a free class for seniors that explained key issues like wills, trusts and long-term planning in Grand Junction. The panel included an attorney, tax professional and financial planner and aimed to help older adults avoid costly mistakes by consulting trusted professionals — a step meant to boost their financial confidence.  KJCT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tuesday evening, residents in Mesa County saw a rare aurora borealis with red, orange, and green lights caused by charged particles from a solar storm. The Western Colorado Astronomy Club is holding an astrophotography exhibit at the Grand Junction Visitor Center (740 Horizon Dr) through Dec. 1 with a presentation on Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Mesa County’s Hazardous Waste Collection Facility runs a reuse program that lets residents take items like paint, chemicals, batteries, and electronics at no cost—helping save money and protect the environment. The facility is open Wednesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and accepts only labeled items that show no leaks as long as a waiver is completed.  KKCO 11

  • The FAA warns that a government shutdown is causing major flight delays with nearly 27,000 delays and over 8,000 cancellations (per FlightAware) since Sunday, and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said disruptions could worsen on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if the shutdown is not resolved soon. Travel experts add that airlines are prioritizing long international flights while smaller communities may face deeper cuts, urging travelers to check airline apps for updates.  WesternSlopeNow.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Heartbeat of Grand Junction will hold its annual Day of Remembrance on November 22 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Martin Mortuary — a nonreligious ceremony where loss survivors will gather to float lanterns on the lake in honor of loved ones lost to suicide.   • Yoga instructor Vicki Gee has started a 90-minute workshop in Grand Junction for women experiencing menopause — using yoga poses and meditation to ease symptoms and build community support.
