COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Living Water Vineyard Church will host a Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway on Wednesday at Fruitvale Elementary School, 585 30 Road from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.—volunteers will distribute full meal packages to about 100 families in need for the holiday.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
  • Lander the land seal, a five-year-old Pitbull mix from Grand Rivers Humane Society, is ready for adoption—he walks well on a leash and loves outdoor walks—showing he could be a friendly companion for a new family.  KJCT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A local study compared prices for Thanksgiving dinner essentials at four grocery stores and found that Walmart sells turkey at 97 cents per pound while organic choices at Natural Grocers and Sprouts cost up to $4.99 per pound. The report noted that using store brands can lower a meal for 10 to about $80—prices for side dishes like potatoes and cranberries vary widely—store employees expect a busy shopping day before the holiday.  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bureau of Land Management plans a lease sale in March that could open the door to drilling hundreds of oil and gas wells in western Colorado—covering 103 parcels and nearly 72,848 acres across Garfield, Mesa, and Rio Blanco counties.   • The City of Grand Junction will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 20 at Noon at 698 Horizon Drive—celebrating the new Horizon Drive and G Road roundabout and art feature that will improve safety and traffic flow. The event follows over a decade of planning by the city and the Horizon Drive Business Improvement District to enhance the corridor.  City of Grand Junction
  • Colorado State Patrol is offering a victims assistance grant to help car theft victims with alternate transportation and repair costs—funding is available on a first come first serve basis. So far in 2025, more than 14,000 vehicles have been stolen in the state, and applicants must be Colorado residents registered with the Department of Revenue.  KJCT
  • Grand Junction City Council discussed helping the Union Depot apply for a $4.7 million federal grant during a meeting on November 17 so that the city acts as applicant with the depot as sub-recipient if awarded. Downtown Development Authority pledged $500,000 subject to matching funds, and if authorized, the application will be submitted by January 1 with funds expected in 6 months and plans for long-term Amtrak leases to reopen the depot within 24 months—establishing a clear timeline for the project.  KJCT

  • Bray Real Estate’s October report shows that in the Grand Valley home prices dropped to around $400,000 while sales rose 18% from last October, with 235 homes sold and 768 active listings on the market—most 2025 sales have been in the $300,000 to $400,000 range, and city impact fee hikes may slow future building.   KKCO 11
