  • Boy Scout Troop 303 continues a decades-long tradition selling Christmas trees at Mt. Garfield Greenhouse + Nursery to fund summer camp experiences where scouts gain hands-on sales skills; the tree lot operates Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  KJCT
  • Colorado Discover Ability is offering gift wrapping and storage for holiday gifts at its office near the Botanical Gardens through Dec. 23 to support accessible community recreation programs. Drop-off is available Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  KKCO 11
  • The She Has a Name craft fair marks its 10th anniversary today at the Heart of Grand Junction, featuring 15 vendors and extra booths whose proceeds fund girls in Kenya’s education and essentials (formed from a local quilting group). It runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at North 4th Street and Hill Avenue.  KKCO 11

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Traffic delays persist on Highway 141 after a train derailed Tuesday, and crews are still cleaning up the site while Grand Valley Power and Union Pacific restored a downed power line+ one power meter was affected with no reported injuries.  KKCO 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Grand Junction engineers at Spirit Engineering designed the new Spirit SE-1 light-sport aircraft for affordable flying. The plane, which debuted this summer at the Oshkosh airshow, has low operating costs, flies over the Rockies, and is priced at $69,500.  KKCO 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Western Colorado Botanical Gardens has brought back its blue light display holiday tradition to honor Marc Cadez and support STRiVE programs for people with developmental disabilities. The display runs December 5-6, 12-13, and 19-20 from 6 to 9 p.m., and tickets are $10 per person + $25 per family online.  KJCT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado Mesa University's fire science program graduated 29 students today in its largest class ever. The graduates received hands on training in emergency response scenarios + have local agency support for entry level firefighting jobs.  KJCT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local experts warn that winter salts and mag chloride can etch aluminum wheels and cause rust underneath vehicles, so regular car washes are recommended (Ron Walton from Simpson Brothers Garage advises acting now to avoid costly repairs).  KKCO 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • For the week of Dec. 8, the city will close parts of Linden Ave, Roubideau St, Santa Clara Ave, and 9th St for travel adjustments while CDOT and Xcel Energy projects will reduce lanes on select routes — drivers should follow detour signs.  City of Grand Junction

HEALTH NEWS

  • A child who did not have the MMR vaccine tested positive for measles in Montezuma County, likely linked to an unidentified case in Cortez. Officials advise anyone who visited Cold Stone Creamery on Wednesday, Nov. 26 (in Cortez) to monitor for symptoms over the next 21 days.  KKCO 11
