COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 200 children in foster care need safe, stable homes; Mesa County Human Services offers training, home studies + ongoing support for anyone interested in fostering regardless of homeownership or prior experience.  Mesa County
  • Volunteers placed nearly 3,600 wreaths Friday at Veterans Memorial Cemetery as part of the national Wreaths Across America program, and a ceremony will be held today at 10 a.m. to honor fallen service members (the tradition began in 2007).  KKCO 11

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a bus crash in Lakewood injured 13 wrestlers and 2 coaches, Mesa County Valley School District 51 superintendent Brian Hill provided an update at Tuesday’s meeting at R-5 High School, noting that 3 students remain hospitalized and details are still under investigation.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

CULTURE NEWS

  • Carolers, live music & an artist market filled downtown during Friday night's Spirit of Christmas Walk, where reindeer made special guest appearances and local businesses encouraged holiday shopping.  KJCT
  • Moody's Lounge, a downtown speakeasy known for its craft cocktails, was named one of Colorado’s best by Tasting Table. Owner Logan Moody said the venue is still working on improvements (and Moody’s Underground with live music is planned) to enhance the local experience.  KKCO 11
  • John Young, a Grand Junction caterer, donned Santa’s suit at a recent Holiday Market, making children feel special by listening to their festive wishes while balancing two catering jobs this season + he will return next year as Santa to continue his cherished local tradition.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grand Junction’s 2026 printed calendar will begin arriving next week in residents’ mailboxes and is available at City Hall (and other city offices). It includes a letter from the Mayor, a review of 2025 projects, meeting schedules, service dates, and local photos chosen by the Commission on Arts and Culture.  City of Grand Junction
  • Starting Dec. 15, the City of Grand Junction will restrict travel as Linden closes between Unaweep and Hwy. 50, Roubideau between Unaweep and Santa Clara, and Santa Clara between Roubideau and Palisade (local traffic only). Xcel Energy will also close 25 Road from F 1/4 Rd to Waite for residents.  City of Grand Junction
  • A GJFD fire truck was involved in a minor crash on Thursday near Railroad Boulevard and River Road at 1:50 p.m., causing minor damage with no injuries. Meanwhile, the Palisade branch of Mesa County Public Libraries remains closed while a contractor for lead-abatement repairs has been tentatively selected — a timeline for work is expected by early January.  Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
