Community Hospital and Montrose Regional Health expect to sign a partnership by year's end

Community Hospital CEO and President Chris Thomas said the final agreement should be signed before the end of 2026. He estimated it will save both hospitals a total of $6 to $9 million. CEO Jeff Mengenhausen said the anticipated launch is early 2027.

The hospitals anticipate an early 2027 launch

  1. Dec. 3 holds a town hall on the partnership at 3 p.m.
  2. Late 2026Final agreement should be signed by the end of 2026, Thomas said.
  3. Early 2027Anticipated launch of the partnership.

If you want updates, Montrose Regional Health has set a town hall for Thu., Dec. 3, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the main hospital, 800 S. Third St., in Conference Rooms A and B on the lower level. It also covers the priorities in the 2026-28 Community Health Needs Assessment.

  • Montrose's earlier job cuts: 77 positions
  • Unpaid private insurance claims at Montrose: roughly $25 million
  • Community Hospital: Thomas expects no layoffs or service reductions
  • The plan: a nonprofit parent company for both hospitals

Most of Montrose's 77 job cuts came through attrition or vacancies

The Wrap

Ever step outside, look north for the Bookcliffs, and find them gone? That flat gray lid is the inversion: cold, heavy air settles on the valley floor while warmer air slides over the top. Normally, the higher you go, the colder the air gets, which is why there's snow on the Grand Mesa while we're down here in a light jacket. An inversion flips that pattern.
